im sore, but it was worth it

I went kayaking last night for about 4 hours. Im sore all over but it was great! The weather was perfect and the water was calm. Tons of swooping swallows out and I found a flock of about 20 geese nesting in a little nook of the waterway... they were not too happy with my prescence. And.. the dragonflys were out in force. The whole afternoon was amazeingly peaceful and centering. I needed it.

Towards the very end of the journey I saw the most amazing thing I ever have while out on the water. I came around this bend and saw a tree with a nest the size of a damn oven. But I couldn't see anything in it because it was up so high. I continued on and then I saw him. A huge beautiful bald eagle. He soared around watching me for a bit and then headed back to the nest. As soon as he landed on the branch the female came out of the nest and one small grey baby. They all three sat there watching me closely. Not sure if it was eat the little dog in my lap or to make sure I paddled away. I kept my distance and watched them for a bit before leaveing them in peace.

I am kicking myself about once an hour today for not having a camera with me. I have never seen an eagle outside of television. I notified the DNR to make sure they kept an eye on it. They were quiet pleased and had not known about it. It was back in an area that only very small craft can get to, like me in my little yak :) Im going back this week with a camera and binoculars to see it again.

Leave me a NOTE :)
